Martin Szekely

Born in 1956 and trained at the Écoles Boulle and Estienne, Martin Szekely came to prominence with his first furniture collection, entitled Pi. Developed between 1982 and 1985 thanks to a carte blanche from Via (Valorisation de l'innovation dans l'ameublement), the collection includes the emblematic Pi chaise longue. Since then, its production has been divided into two sets. On the one hand, limited series of furniture and research objects, regularly exhibited in galleries. On the other, products and creations resulting from his work with industrialists and public commissions. ©Luxproductions.

"Soleil" is the subject of a study carried out with Tectona on its inflexion with regard to the new march of the world and ecological issues. The idea was to design a set of furniture made in France with wood from our regions (EU), in this case Larch wood, a rare species of wood that ages well outdoors in contact with rainfall and sunlight. This project brings me back to the trade I learnt in carpentry workshops when I was a young man, carpentry, the etymology of which is "minor works" or "delicate wooden works"; those which, carried out with all the necessary attention, will intrude into our environments for the pleasure of the senses and our bodies on "holiday".
