Key steps in the restoration of the Glenwood armchair

The Expertise of Masterful Restoration
The workshop identifies, numbers, and catalogs each piece of furniture before disassembly to ensure precise reassembly. Since the armchair is assembled using traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery with dowels, the teak screw covers and brass screws must be removed before it can be fully taken apart. The tenons and mortises are carefully cleaned to remove dust and other materials accumulated over time.

The Excellence of the Artisan’s Touch
The original armrest, broken, serves as a template to trace the new piece on a solid teak block. The wood is then cut on a band saw and hand-sanded. The profiles and tenons are crafted without machines to replicate the original piece exactly and restore its original curves.

The Art of a Perfect Adjustment
One of the legs had sunk, causing the chair to become unbalanced. A teak graft is crafted, glued, adjusted, and sanded to subtly raise the leg while seamlessly integrating it into the structure.

Assembly: a mark of durability
Once all the pieces are ready, the chair is reassembled using clamps; the angles and squareness are carefully checked. After the glue has dried, we insert teak dowels, a traditional woodworking technique that ensures the furniture’s strength and longevity. Sanded and cleaned, the chair is ready to enjoy many years outdoors.
